In the years following the turn of the millennium, I entered into a long, albeit somewhat irregular, correspondence with Borgó (Csaba György), a painter born in 1950 in Marosvásárhely and living and working in Hungary since 1986. I first met the versatile artist, who was initially active in Százhalombatta and then in the northern Hungarian region (Szirmabesenyő-Miskolc-Eger area), in Szentendre in the second half of the 1980s, and then I was able to contribute to the opening of several of his solo exhibitions, and I wrote numerous essays, exhibition guides, and catalogue introductions about his work. I reflected on Borgó's long, handwritten letters, which were difficult to follow, describing everyday events as well as surreal visions, documenting the artistic events and phenomena of the first years of the new millennium, recording my personal experiences - also paying attention to our common passion, the current events of Hungarian basketball - with subjectively nuanced responses. I publish my Borgó letters, written between 2001 and 2012 - in their unchanged form, edited with only the smallest stylistic corrections - with the conviction and intention that in this way I can enrich the overall picture of contemporary Hungarian art with some important characteristics, hitherto unknown features and aspects.
